![]() ![]() ![]() It will often cause your check engine light to illuminate, even though there isn’t necessarily anything wrong with your car. It is not safe driving with a bad oil pressure sensor. Is it OK to drive with a bad oil pressure sensor? Although you may be no automotive expert, the temperature gauge on your console will generally read warmer as a sign that an oil pump has failed. Here are some other recognizable symptoms or issues that may come about when your oil pump fails. What are the symptoms of a failing oil pump? If the pump veins cannot develop enough pressure to lubricate the engine, internal engine damage can occur. The oil pressure is developed by the oil pump located inside the engine. Oil pressure in a vehicle can still be at zero even if it is full of oil. In any case, switch the engine off and get your engine checked out as soon as possible. If this reading occurs at higher speeds it could mean one of three things: 1) the gauge is faulty, 2) the oil level is low, or 3) the oil pump (or its drive) is broken. Zero Reading This is normal only when the vehicle is idling. What does it mean when your oil gauge is on 0? Some common causes behind the P0521 code are: An open or shorted wiring in the oil pressure sending unit circuit. If the low oil warning light activates along with the check engine light, stop driving immediately and have your vehicle towed for repairs. In some cases, the low oil warning light will illuminate. The P0521 engine code may point to a faulty oil pressure sensor, but it can also indicate insufficient oil pressure. If the problem persists, consider replacing the oil pressure sensor. Check voltage of oil pressure sensor to ensure it is within specified range. Visually inspect the wiring around the oil pressure sensor for disconnection. Verify the oil filter and drain plug are secure with no leakage. Cold weather can also make the oil pressure read low until the oil pump has had a chance to deliver the oil to the engine. Oil pressure gauge reading too low, generally below 15 to 20 PSI while idling. Oil pressure gauge not working: The causes for this range from a faulty gauge to the need for an oil change. What causes oil pressure gauge to not work? When Error Code P0521 is triggered, that means the PCM has determined an unexpected value in engine oil pressure sender/sensor, which is out of its normal range or could be fixed when it should fluctuate. Sometimes, however, there is no gauge rather, there will be a warning light to notify the driver about the problem. ![]()
